The IIT Experience

The clock had just struck midnight and the 24th of September, 2006 was yet to dawn on India, venue was IIT Delhi and a crazy bunch of people was clamouring to get to the top of the Insti building bypassing the guards who wouldn’t allow. Finally they got lucky around 1am or so when they noticed that the entrance had been left unguarded.

The view atop was breathtaking (anything less would be an understatement). Far ahead, you could see the aeroplanes disappearing due south (IGI Airport). Towards the north you could notice the maze of dizzy orange lights hanging in the distance as if unseemingly distant stars hung in the sky and where you stood could easily be called the heart of Delhi. As the “Five Point Someone” buddies chirped in, that was the place which found mention in Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same name.

You had to be crazier still; to want to climb to the small raised structure where the Insti bell hung (add two floors to the Insti top). Some of us crazy people had the wish to do that as well, half way through the climb, the knees grew weak (it isn’t exactly an easy job once you see the steel reinforced steps to the top and the platform that welcomes you directly at the end of those steps coupled with the first time feeling).

Only a fool could miss the people down below; lost in their thoughts, loitering around the stalls in the campus while the hostels looked inconspicuously small from there.

It was a part of a greater experience, The IIT Experience.
